‘Il Gazometro: The Social Backdrop’

This concepts seeks to pay homage to one of the most defining structural elements of the neighbourhood where the site is located—The Pignone Gasometer. The structure is a relic of the nineteenth century industrial landscape where the now visible metal structure once held a large metal cylinder which stored much of the city’s gas which served as a source of domestic and public lighting and heating.

Today, the old structure serves as a ‘scenographic nucleus of a modern social centre’. With an adjacent social centre and nearby pockets of grass surrounding the structure, the structure serves as a backdrop for the intentional social activity.

Within the office space, the concept seeks to mirror this social intention by structuring the space to facilitate teamwork, collaboration and knowledge sharing while additionally reflecting the urban cityscape influenced by this nineteenth century industrial symbol.
